Today has been a very humbling day…and yet, it has been a good day. I have seen, and learned firsthand, kindness unexpected.
The need for assistance arises from being in such dire physical shape that I have missed more work in the past 2 months than what I was able to work.
As a result of all the missed work time, and paid leave running out, I am on unpaid leave until July 4. And I will return to 1/2 time work from July 7 to the end of that month. And I have used up all my rainy day funds prior to the surgery on my hip.
So I have need of assistance, and I received it in several ways today and expect to get additional help starting tomorrow. I got delayed due dates on my phone bill so they don’t shut it off. I paid a 5th of my water bill, with a delayed due date to pay the remainder. And 2 phone numbers to check to see if I can get a one-time assistance to pay the balance owed.
Tomorrow, I will head to my church and get some food for the week. And I will call those 2 numbers for the water bill assistance. And then I call for my gas and electric bills assistance as well.
I also signed up for food stamps and unemployment to cover the amount of hours unpaid and to help me cover the other 1/2 time unpaid for the month of July. We will see what the State will do, if anything for me.
So it’s been a day of lots of running about town, but to some avail, as I got much needed help in some areas, and promise in other areas. Praise the Lord.
He certainly takes us through humble waters in order to not only teach humility, but to show me how those who are less fortunate than I deal with life each and every day. For those times when I have felt flush, and was able to give, but did not, those are missed opportunity to give blessing. For those times where I did give, those are reminders of kindness paid forward.
And at church Sunday, I gave to the offering my last $1.98 to my name, and prayed that God would bless it abundantly so I can make it through July without losing my house or my car to repossesion.
Praise God for the kindness of those whom I knew not prior to today. Thank you Lord for the lessons of humility.
